THE TRUTH ABOUT WHITE BUFFALO

Considered by many as turquoise, it’s technically not. It was originally called “White Buffalo Turquoise” by
those who discovered it, due to it being found in veins similar to turquoise, which is where the source of confusion comes from. It quickly became popular and it’s initial name became difficult to retract.

The now more simply titled “White Buffalo”, lacks the metal compound which is what gives turquoise its color and is known to have Calcite as its main mineral though it can morph into Dolomite or Aragonite depending on its crystalline structure. It’s contrasted by a black chert matrix that polishes nicely, similar to turquoise.

Originally discovered by the Otteson family in Tonopah, Nevada, this stone isn’t currently known to be found anywhere else in the world.
